| Title |

A time delay relay is an electromechanical or electronic device that controls the opening or closing of an electrical circuit after a predefined delay. Unlike a conventional relay, which reacts instantly to the presence or absence of a signal, a time delay relay requires a delay before activating or disconnecting the load.
Activation – When the relay receives an input signal (current or voltage), an internal system measures a programmed time.
Triggering – At the end of this delay, the relay closes or opens its contacts to control the associated device or circuit.
Deactivation – Depending on the relay type, the return to the initial state can be immediate or delayed.
In summary, the time delay relay is a key element in the automation and intelligent management of electrical circuits, optimizing safety, efficiency, and user comfort.
Schneider Electric's DIN rail time relays are designed to precisely control delays in electrical circuits and automation systems. They attach directly to a DIN rail, making them easy to integrate into electrical cabinets and panels. The range consists of several families adapted to different needs. We have the RE17, RE22, Zelio Time series and the Harmony NFC version.
Common Applications
As you know, there are several families, and we will explore each of them.
Let’s start with the RE17 series. It stands out for its ultra-compact 17.5 mm format, ideal when space is limited. These single-function models, such as on-delay or star-delta switching, offer a timing range from 0.1 seconds to 100 hours and operate with a universal supply voltage of 24 to 240 V AC/DC.
The RE22 series, slightly wider at 22.5 mm, offers dual-function models, for example on-delay and off-delay. Their timing range extends from 0.05 seconds to 300 hours. They feature a diagnostic button and can be equipped with screw or spring terminals, making them perfect for upgrading or complementing an existing installation.
The Zelio Time range meets more complex needs, with single- or multi-function timers, available in analog or digital versions. Their format varies from 17.5 mm to 45 mm, and their timing range can go from milliseconds to several days, offering high robustness for industrial environments.
Finally, the Harmony NFC version brings major innovation thanks to contactless programming via smartphone. Multi-function and universal, it allows quick and flexible configuration, particularly useful when settings need to be changed regularly. These timers cover all the classic timing functions: on-delay (TON), off-delay (TOFF), cyclic flashing, pulse, or star-delta sequence for motor starting. They are used in a wide variety of applications
